Reference: Scorecard Settings

Describes appearance, data, and time settings for dashboard scorecards.

A scorecard visualizes a series of data in a tabular format that summarizes actuals versus planned data, and variance. This chart often includes a micro chart to highlight key metrics.

Appearance Settings

Appearance Settings Tab Select the Appearance Settings tab on the right to change the appearance for the selected chart. 



Indicates the chart title.

Show in Presentation Mode

Indicates if users can see for most chart types when viewing the dashboard in presentation mode:

  • Off (default): Will not display in presentation mode.
  • On: Will display as a separate slides in presentation mode—similar to each chart displaying as separate slides.


The scorecard template comes with preset sections based on the calendar setup for your instance. For example, if your calendar is set up with months, quarters, and years, your scorecard will have three sections: Month, Quarter, and Year.

Expand the Sections menu to view, change, or add sections and columns to a scorecard.


 Each section has its own set of settings. Expand to change the settings for the specific section.

Example of a Section Setting for a Scorecard

Use the handler icon Handler Icon to drag and drop the section to reorder. 

Select x to delete this section and all its columns.


Indicates the section title.

Indicates the preset for the column in a section. The scorecard template comes with preset columns for each section:

  • Value - Actuals 
  • Value - From version selector
  • Variance - Actuals
  • Micro Charts - From version selector (not included in the smallest time period)

Each column in a section has its own settings. Expand to change settings for the specific column.

Example of a Column in a Scorecard Section

Use the handler icon Handler Icon to drag and drop the column to reorder within the section. 

Select x to delete this column from the section.

Name Type

Indicates if the column name applies the system default or lets you specify your own column name. Values:

  • Use System Derived Name
  • Use Custom. Displays the Name field.

Available for column types: All


Indicates the custom name of the column. Default name is Column.

Character Limit: 50

Available when Name Type is Use Custom.


Defines the visualization for the column. Options available to set a column can vary. Possible values.

  • Value: Displays a value, such as amount or percentage for the specified metric.
  • Variance: Displays a variance amount as calculated against another version and period.
  • Variance Percent: Displays a variance percentage as calculated against another version and period.
  • Micro Chart: Displays a micro chart.

Indicates the version used to visualize data for the column. For example, if you want a column in the scorecard visualizes actual results for a period, choose Actuals as the version.

Available for column types: All

When the column type is Variance or Variance Percent, specify a reference version and comparison version. By default, the reference version is Actuals

Time Alignment

Indicates the segment of time the column is based on:

  • Current:
  • Previous: Must select  an Offset Count and Offset Period
  • Next: Must select an Offset Count and Offset Period
  • Trailing: Must select a Period Count and Period
  • Leading: Must select a Period Count and Period

Available for column types: All

When the column type is Variance or Variance Percent, specify a reference time alignment and comparison time alignment.

Period Count

Specifies the number of periods to count when the time alignment is Trailing or Leading. Enter a positive numeric value. For example:

Time Alignment Period Count Period Data Results for
Trailing 1 Year: 2016 2015
Leading 2 Month: January March (future)

Sets the time period based on the calendar setup on your instance. Possible values are:

  • From Period Selector
  • Month
  • Quarter Year
  • Year

Available for column types: All

When the column type is Variance or Variance Percent, you must specify a time alignment for the reference and comparison versions.

Date Range

Indicates whether to visualize data for the total period or to-date. Select Total Period or To Date. 

Available for column types: All

Comparison or Reference Version

Sets the comparison version for a variance analysis. For example, if you compare Actuals to Forecast, you can choose Actuals for the Reference Version and Forecast for the Comparison Version. By default, the comparison version is the default version. 

Available for column types: Variance and Variance Percent

Variance Type

Indicates how to calculate the variance:

  • Reference minus Comparison (default)
  • Comparison minus Reference
  • Comparison

Available for column types: Variance and Variance Percent

Variance Percent

Specifies how to calculate the variance percent. Possible Values:

  • Variance Divide By Reference
  • Variance Divide By Comparison
  • Reference Divide By Comparison
  • Comparison Divide By Reference

Sets the type for the micro chart:

  • Line
  • Column
  • Area
  • Outline

Available for column type: Micro Chart


Indicates if the data points show cumulative values for the time period:

  • On: Show actual value at each data point.
  • Off: Show the cumulative value at each data point. Good for highlighting upward or downward trends.

Available for column type: Micro Chart


Sets the color for the micro chart.

Available for column type: Micro Chart

Breakdown Period Level

Determines how to break down data points on the micro chart:

  • From Period Selector
  • Month
  • Quarter Year
  • Year

Available for column type: Micro Chart

Conditional Formatting

Settings to define conditional formatting rules. Rule expressions can only reference data series in the chart. 

The following describes the fields on the Conditional Formatting dialog when adding or editing a rule:

  • Description: A brief description of the rule.
  • Expression: A rule that evaluates to true or false. If true, the condition is met and the data is conditional formatted in the color specified.  Select Help Icon for syntax rules and list of operators.
  • Color: Choose a color to format data that meets the condition.
  • Series: Choose the data series to apply the rule to.

All fields are required.

Data Settings

 Select the Data Settings tab in the right panel to configure settings for the data series.


Expand the Accounts menu to view, change, delete or add accounts to the chart. Each account represents a data series on the chart.


Each account in a chart has its own settings. Expand the account to change the settings for the data series.

If you have many data series in your chart, you can reorder them. Select the Handler icon DIS-handlerIcon.png to drag the account to a new location. Select X to remove the account from the chart. The order affects the format and placement of the data series in a chart.


Defines the name of the data series as it will display on the chart. The default label that displays on the chart axis is the name as defined in Accounts plus the version enclosed in parentheses. For example, 6200 Taxes & Benefits(budget).

For area, bar, column, doughnut, funnel, line, pie, and pyramid charts: When editing the name for certain chart types, the version is removed from chart axis label. For example, an edited name will display the account as Taxes & Benefits. Once you edit the name, the version label will no longer display—even if you reset the name back to the default.


Displays the account name added to the chart as a data series.


Narrows the focus of the analysis by filtering the data by dimensions or dimension members. See Set up Filters on a Chart for more information.

Display Units

Sets the unit format to display.

  • Follow Account (default):  Uses the display units set from the account.
  • #,000,000 (#,##0.#): Displays as millions with one decimal.
  • # (#,##0): Displays as thousands with no decimals.
  • #,000 (#,##0.#): Displays as thousands with one decimal.

Negative Number Format

Sets the format for displaying negative numbers on the chart. 

  • -123,456,789.12: Use a negative sign to indicate a negative value.
  • (123,.456,789.12): Enclose a negative value in parentheses.

Time Settings

 General Section


Sets the time scale for the data set and are based on the calendar setup on your instance. Common values:

  • Month
  • Quarter
  • Year

Pin - Unpin Time

Sets time on the chart as pinned or unpinned:

Blue pinPin (blue): Time is a fixed time period. The period of time for pinned charts is based on the selected time stratum. For example, if you select the stratum:

  • Month: Choose periods based on month-year.
  • Quarter: Choose periods based on quarter-year.
  • Year: Choose periods based on the year.

Set a specific date, such as May 2017.

Grey pinUnpin (grey): Time is relative to the reference period indicated in the perspective context. Relative time is based on the selected stratum. Select:

  • Current: Matches the current reference date.
  • Backwards: Adjusts backward by the number you enter.
  • Forwards: Adjusts forward by the number you enter.
