Why Does The Value On My Report Not Match The Value On My Sheet?

Question

When I’m in the Income Statement Sheet looking at the Net Income Account, the value is correct. Then I go to my Income Statement Report, but the Net Income Account value is different and incorrect. What is causing the difference, and how can I fix it?

Answer

There are various reasons why an account value would be different on a report than when viewed on a sheet. Here are the first settings that should be checked.

  • Verify that the sheet and the report are displaying data from the same version and level. If the version and level are not already included on the report, click the Information icon (see below) to show the version and level details.

  • Check to make sure the report is not filtered for a different currency type. The Information icon will also display the currency type if the currency is not already included on the report.
  • Multiple accounts can have the same name. Verify that the account on the sheet and the account on the report are the same account. That can be done by taking the following steps.
    1. Open the Income Statement on the correct version and level.
    2. Right click on a value in the Net Income row and select "Explore Cell"
    3. Look in the top left corner of the Explore Cell window to verify the account code
    4. Open the Reports tab and run the Income Statement Report
    5. Left click on a value in the Net Income row
    6. Look in the top left corner of the Explore Cell window to verify the account code
