Period to Date Column is Displaying Blank

Question

Why is my Period to Date (YTD, QTD, MTD) report column displaying as blank for some accounts?

Answer

If you have a Period to Date (PTD) column that is displaying blank on your report it may be helpful to take a look at the Element Properties of the PTD element, as well as the account's defined time stratum.

In the report builder you can view the PTD Element Properties by right-clicking on the element and selecting "Properties..."

Notice, in this example the date for the "Year to date as of" field has been set to the day of 12/31/2019, indicating we want to see date through the end of December.

However, if we navigate to Modeling>Model Management>General Ledger Accounts  and look at the Account Details we can see that the Stratum for this account is set to Month.  Therefore, there is no data for this account existing on the Day stratum.

Since data for this account only exists on the Month stratum we need to select a month rollup in the PTD report element for the "Year to date as of" field.

As you can see below, choosing the correct time stratum for the account allows the data on the report to display as expected.
