Technical Requirements and Installation for Excel Interface for Planning

This quicksheet includes system requirements and the procedure for installing the Excel Interface for Planning add-in. It also includes procedures on how to:

  • Connect to the Adaptive server to access and open Adaptive plans in Excel.

  • Open OfficeConnect (if installed) and work between an Excel Interface for Planning and OfficeConnect Report Builder from one Excel workbook.

Hardware and Software Requirements

The following are the minimum system requirements for each computer on which the Excel Interface for Planning add-in will be installed.

The following table provides a list of system requirements.

  • RunningOfficeConnect on a Mac® com­puter is not supported.
  • Running OfficeConnect in a server/desktop virtualization environment (such as Remote Desktop Services) is supported.

Microsoft Office 365 (32-bit or 64-bit) Office 365 online editions of Excel are not sup­ported.

Note: Microsoft .NET Framework (4.5.2) and Microsoft Studio® Tools for Office (VSTO 2010) are installed automatically if not already present on your computer.

Install Excel Interface for Planning

Install the Excel Interface for Planning add-in on the local computer of each person responsible for planning and forecasting.

Per User Installation

Recommended for most users. It allows users to install future updates without help from IT. 

The per-user installation installs files, registry entries, and certificates only for the installing user. Because it only modifies the user’s profile, this installation does not require the user to have administrative permissions to install the Excel Interface for Planning. If a prerequisite such as the Microsoft .NET Framework is not installed, elevation will be required.

Note:  if you are looking for Excel Interface for Planning, it will display in your control panel add/remove programs as "Adaptive Planning for Excel".

  1. Go to ­ https://clickonce.adaptiveinsights.com/planning/latest/AdaptivePlanningExcelSetup.exe to download the exe file.
  2. Double click to install.

When the installation has completed successfully, Excel Interface for Planning is installed. The Planning rib­bon will be displayed on the Excel UI when you open Excel. You are ready to start working with Adaptive Planning directly from Excel.

When an update is available for the Excel Interface for Planning add-in, you are required to update. After the update completes, you have the option of saving your sheets before restarting Excel.

Click Login from the Planning tab and a dialog box with the following message appears:

  1. Click Yes to start the update.

Connecting to the Adaptive Server

You must connect to the Adaptive server to:

  • Access to Adaptive plans to open in Excel.
  • Submit changes to the Adaptive server.
  • Refresh the plan in Excel with changes made on the Adaptive server.

If you have OfficeConnect installed, you can work between the Excel Interface for Planning and OfficeConnect Reporting - all from one Excel workbook. These procedures explain how to:

  • Connect to the Adaptive server when working with Adaptive sheets in Excel as a stand-alone.
  • Connect to OfficeConnect when the Excel Interface for Planning add-in is enabled on Excel.

Connect to the Server when working with Adaptive Planning sheets in Excel as a stand-alone

To connect to the Adaptive server:

  1. Launch Excel.

Navigate to the Planning and click Log In and enter your user ID and password:

Connect to the Server when working with OfficeConnect and Adaptive Planning Sheets in Excel

You can work with Excel Interface for Planning and OfficeConnect if both are installed on Excel.

To work with both Excel Interface for Planning and OfficeConnect for Excel:

Alternatively, click the Switch to Planning link from the left pane.

  1. Launch OfficeConnect from the Microsoft Start menu and select OfficeConnect for Excel. The Planning tab and OfficeConnect tab are displayed next to each other.
  2. Navigate to the Planning ribbon and click Log In to automatically log you into the Adaptive Planning server:

    Alternatively, click the Switch to Planning link from the left pane.

  3. Work between an Adaptive Planning planning sheet and OfficeConnect Reporting:

  • If you can see the Reporting pane, click the Switch to planning link to work with Adaptive Planning.
  • If you can see the Planning pane, click the Switch to reporting link to view reports and work with the Report Builder.

If Adaptive planning data exists on the sheet, the link to switch between both panes is not visible. Click the Excel sheet tab to open a new sheet. The links to switch between Reporting and Planning are displayed again.

Work Offline

You can choose to work offline as you make changes in Excel and log back in to submit changes or to refresh. To work offline, click Log Off from the Planning ribbon.
