We are migrating to a different General Ledger application in the coming year so our organization structure and accounts will be completely different than in prior years. Can we have two model structures?
The level structure applies to your entire model (all versions in all statuses), and there is not currently a way to have different level or account structures for different versions. When you change your level structure and account structure in the Model Management screens, the changes will apply across your entire model (including any historical data).
In the past, I have seen clients handle a conversion in different ways.
- Some clients update the data in their existing model to reflect the new account/level structure. This may require a migration of the historical data to the new account/level fields, which involves exporting data and reimporting to the updated levels and accounts.
- Some clients get a second model and build the new structure into the new model, thus keeping the historical structure and the new structure completely separate
- Some clients keep both models permanently (this would require purchasing an additional model).
- Some clients keep the old model for a specific period of time while the migration is taking place.
