Map Dimension Values with Dimension Mapping

Use the dimension mapping table to create conditions that determine which values to automatically populate on a modeled sheet.

On a modeled sheet you can have dimension values that are set by the values of mapping dimensions based on user-defined dimension mapping rules. Use the dimension mapping table to create mapping rules for each dimension value.

Derived Dimension Values

For example, to group job seniority level you can create mapping rules to determine the values of your Seniority dimension. You can have mapping dimensions for Job Code and Title that set the dimension values of Seniority on modeled sheets.

Before You Begin

  • Required Permission: Access Dashboards.
  • Edit access to a private or shared perspective

Create a Dimension Mapping Table

  1. Select Edit to put your dashboard in edit mode.
  2. On the left panel, click Charts Chart tab to choose a chart. Drag and drop Dimension Mapping Sheet Chart to the design area.
  3. On the right panel, name the dimension mapping table in Appearance Settings Appearance Settings
  4. Select Data Settings Data Settings and select a Dimension. The dimension must have Use mapping criteria to set dimension value on modeled sheets enabled in the Dimensions page in Modeling.
  5. Select Done.

Add Mapping Conditions to Determine Dimension Values

Use the dimension mapping table to create rows with conditions that determine each derived dimension value to populate on modeled sheets.

  1. Add a row to the dimension value mapping table.
  2. Select a Level for the mapping condition.
  3. Select a dimension value for the dimension used for the dimension mapping table to populate on modeled sheets.
  4. Select mapping condition values for all other dimensions.
You can select multiple values for each mapping dimension or leave a value blank to represent any dimension value.
  5. Select Save Save_Mappings.png.

Move Mapping Values Between Rows

Move your mapping values between two mapping dimension rows.

  1. Select two rows on your dimension mapping table.
  2. Select the Move mapping values between two rows icon.
  3. Select a Dimension, then move values between the two rows.

Edit Mapping Dimensions

Add Mapping Dimensions

To add mapping dimensions to your dimension mapping table.

  1. In Modeling Dimensions, select the dimension used in your dimension mapping table.
  2. Under Use mapping criteria to set dimension values on modeled sheets, select Add dimension then select a dimension to use as a mapping dimension.

Dimensions you add are included in your dimension mapping table with empty values.

Remove Mapping Dimensions

To remove dimensions that are mapped to the dimension used in a dimension mapping table.

  1. Delete all rows on your dimension mapping table.
  2. In Modeling Dimensions, select the dimension used in your dimension mapping table.
  3. Under Use mapping criteria to set dimension values on modeled sheets, remove dimensions used for dimension mapping.

Make Edits to Derived Values

You can override derived values in your modeled sheet. Make manual edits when there are exceptions to your dimension value mapping rules. Editing a derived dimension value on sheet removes the green triangle in a cell that indicates the value is derived from dimension mapping rules. Delete any manual updates for values to be derived from dimension mapping rules.
