Editing or Deleting an Account

After accounts are set up, you can change their details and re-parent them if required.

For General Ledger, Metric, Custom, and Assumptions accounts:

Navigation: Modeling > Accounts and choose an account type

For modeled accounts or cube accounts:

Navigation: Modeling > Model Management > Level Assigned Sheets or User-Assigned Sheets and choose a model sheet or cube sheet

Change Account Details

To edit details of an account:

  1. Navigate to the account. The Account Administration page appears.
  2. Browse or search for the account and highlight it. The Account Details pane refreshes with information associated with the account. See Account Details Field Descriptions for more information.
  3. Make the desired changes.
  4. Click Save Icon from the toolbar to save the changes.

Re-Parent Accounts

If the account or group you want to use as the new parent does not currently have at least one child account, add a new account as a child of that account or group.

Important: The first child created for a parent account has its data overwritten with the parent account data – even if the parent account is empty. To avoid deleting data associated with the account you are reparenting, create a child account for any new parent first.

To change the parent account or group to which an account rolls up:

  1. Navigate to the account. The Account Administration page appears.
  2. Browse or search for the account and highlight it.
  3. In the Account Details pane, choose the new parent account or group from the Rolls Up To drop-down.
  4. Click Save Icon from the toolbar to save the changes.
  5. If you created a temporary child account, be sure to delete it.

Re-parent Accounts in Bulk

You can only update existing structure elements using this method, and cannot delete or recode an account.

As with re-parenting in the UI, an Update spreadsheet cannot move an existing account to be the first child of some current-leaf account. You can only re-parent existing accounts to be children of accounts which are currently a parent. Attempts to reparent to other accounts will cause the upload to fail.

To re-parent accounts in bulk with Import Structure:

  1. Navigate to the account. The Account Administration page appears.
  2. Download the Printable View.
  3. Update the structure in the downloaded file by editing items in the Rolls up to column.
  4. Click Import account structure.
  5. Upload the file using the Update option.

Delete an Account

You can delete an account from your model if you no longer need the account and any of its historical and current data.

If the account you delete is the last child account under a parent account, data from the child account’s is moved to the parent account as part of the deletion process.

Important: If you delete an account, all data associated with it in all versions is deleted. If you want to keep historical data for one or more versions, do not delete the account. If you delete a parent account, both the parent and any child accounts are deleted.

Best Practice: Before you delete an account, you can check where an account is referenced by clicking View Dependencies for the account within Account Details.

To delete an account:

  1. Navigate to the account. The Account Administration page appears.
  2. Browse or search for the account and select it.
  3. Click Delete Icon in the toolbar to delete.
