Object Modeling

Describes the Sales Planning settings within Model Management for mapping sales data from transaction tables to modeled and cube sheets.

Only available with Adaptive Insights for Sales

The Object Modeling page lets you map data from various elements of your sales planning model. Once you do this, the cube sheet you created can power Territory Map charts and other charts you use for territory planning.

Before You Begin

To access Object Modeling you need the Transactions Access, Model Management Access, Model, and Transactions permissions.

Understand where you are in the overall Territory Planning setup: 

  1. Create a transaction table or a modeled sheet and import your CRM data into it. 
  2. Create custom dimensions for sales reps and geography.
  3. Create a modeled sheet to assign territories to sales reps. 
  4. Create a cube sheet for opportunities. The sheet displays sales opportunities per sales rep based on your CRM data and your territory assignments.
  5. (You are here) Complete Object Modeling to bring together the CRM data and the territory assignments. 
  6. (Optional) Create your territory map charts and other charts.

How You Get There

From the nav menu, select Modeling. In the Sales Planning menu, select Object Modeling.

Define Data Mapping

To set up territory planning, you created many sheets and dimensions. Use the data mapping section of Object Modeling to define the specialized dimensions, sheets, and the objects. Object modeling aligns the transaction table or transaction modeled sheet with the accounts in your opportunities cube sheet.

Specialized Dimensions

Use this section to identify the two main territory planning dimensions. The drop-downs contain all the custom dimensions in your sales planning model.

  1. For Geography, select the dimension you created for geography. For values, it has specific states, cities, zip codes, and area codes. 
  2. For Sales Person, select the dimension you created for sales reps. For values, it has the names of each of your sales reps.
  3. Optional. For Sales Region, choose your sales region dimension. Sales regions are high level region segments with customized values for your territories.
  4. Select Save

Specialized Sheets

To set up territory planning, you created at least two sheets. The drop-downs contain all the transaction tables and modeled sheets in your sales planning model.

  1. For Assignment Sheets, select the modeled sheet you created for territory assignment. See Create Territory Assignment Modeled Sheet
  2. For Order by, select the column in the sheet that you created in the modeled sheet for the rules. Select Save.
  3. For Cube Sheet, select the  Opportunities cube sheet you created. Select Save.

Object Definitions

To set up territory planning, you created transaction tables and modeled sheets to hold your CRM data. Use this section to map the columns of your CRM data to the cube account codes.

  1. Select the Add Definition link. 
  2. The Transaction Table drop-down has all your transaction tables and modeled sheets. Select the transaction table or modeled sheet that holds your CRM data. 
  3. For Code, enter the data source ID number you entered when you created the CRM table or sheet. The ID uniquely identifies each record.
  4. Add the cube accounts that you want to map to the columns in your CRM transaction table or CRM modeled sheet.
  • Select the Add Account link. The accounts in the drop-down are the cube accounts from the opportunity cube sheet.
  • Repeat for the next account.
  1. Select Save at the bottom of the section.
