Numeric Display Dial

Version: DiscoveryClassic

Explains how to create a numeric display dial

Numeric display dials give you a high-level view of a specific data series. The dial consists of a data point (in this case, the current actuals EBITDA) and its trend over time (in the small area chart). A sample of this appears below.

Example of a Numeric Display Dial

To make a numeric display dial:

  1. Click Edit In Place  (or open the Visual Designer if you prefer).

  2. Expand the Component Library (edit in place only) by clicking Expand .

  3. Expand the folders in the Data components menu until you find a data series (EBITDA in this example) you want to include in the grid dial.

  4. Drag the data series onto the dashboard where you want to store the grid dial.
    The Create New... dialog opens.

  5. Select Numeric Display Dial from the list of dial types.

  6. Enter a name for your new dial.

  7. Select the folder in which you want to store your grid dial.

  8. Click Create.

To add a second series to show the data point’s variance from another data point in the EBITDA (Budget) value, do the following:

  1. Click the EBITDA dial to select it.

  2. From the Editors menu, click Data Settings.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Select the data series, version, and so on. In this example, add the series EBITDA with version set to Budget.

  5. Click Apply.

  6. Click Close.

You’re done. You can configure a Numeric Display dial by opening Numeric Display Settings from the Editors pane.
