Create a Perspective and Dashboard

Version: Discovery

Explains how to create a perspective and dashboard using Discovery

(1) Perspectives, (2) dashboards, and (3) charts are the building blocks for creating a rich data analysis experience.

Building blocks for a Perspective, Dashboard, Charts

Perspectives

A perspective is a group of dashboards, usually focused on a common function such as finance or sales. When you access Discovery, you start on the Perspectives page, a collection of perspectives you can access.

Perspectives are personal (private for your eyes only) or shared (accessible by others). This page may be empty until you and other users start building perspectives and sharing. These folders are contextual and will appear on your Perspectives page only when content is available from them. Personal and Shared folders indicate the number of perspectives available from each. When you create a perspective, it is personal by default. You can share your perspective with others.

Dashboards

Dashboards are containers for charts. An Executive Summary perspective can have Dashboards for Revenue, Financial Health, and Operations, where each dashboard includes charts that provide insight to that area of the business.

You must be in Edit Mode to change the name of dashboard tab labels or to add dashboards to a perspective. To edit a dashboard, keep the focus on the dashboard (that is, not on any chart). If the focus is on a chart, you will edit the settings of the selected chart.
