Discovery Context Filters

Use context filters to temporarily change the data evaluated for all charts in the perspective. For example, you can filter and show only data for a specific level and customers. These changes do not persist and will revert back to the defaults when you navigate away from the page.

The following shows the Time, Level, and Currency context filters, plus a Customer context filter.

Expanded Perspective Context Showing the Level and Currency Filters

Time, Level, and Currency are permanent filters with preset defaults. You can add more context filters by editing the perspective, such as the Customer context filter.

Change Time

Available in Grid mode, Presentation mode, and Edit mode.

Discovery Perspective Time

You can dynamically visualize different set of data by temporarily changing time at the perspective level for all charts or on a chart. These overrides do not persist and will revert back to the defaults when you navigate away from the page.

You can override the default time from the 1 Perspective toolbar or the 2 Time toolbar at the bottom of each chart.

Change Time Options on Perspective Toolbar and Chart Time Toolbar

Before you change the time, make sure that any chart you want to adjust dynamically is unpinned. Pinned charts won't change. From the toolbar, click the date and choose a time period from the dropdown

Time Changes on Unpinned Charts Explained

All the unpinned charts will update to the time period you select:

  • disc-unpinnedIcon.pngUnpinned Charts with single period time settings change to the exact same time period you select from the perspective toolbar. For example, if you select June 2017, single time periods on charts change to June, Q2, and 2016.
  • disc-unpinnedIcon.pngUnpinned Charts with time range settings move forward or backward in synch with the global offset. For example, if you move the time two months forward, time ranges on charts move two months forward: January 2016-December 2016 changes to March 2016-February 2017.
  • Disc-pinnedIcon.pngPinned charts: don't change or adjust because the time setting overrides the global time setting. You can temporarily unpin a chart before you adjust the time in the toolbar and it will adjust.

Drill into a Data Point

Available in Grid mode only.

You can drill into a data point on a chart to help you pin-point the root source of the analysis. For example, if revenue is down for a product, you can drill deeper into the data to find anomalies, such as under-performing sales regions.

On the chart, click the data point and choose a dimension from the drop-down. Click Back to return to the dashboard.

The following is an example of drilling down into a 1 line chart data point to view data by 2 location.
