The following are examples of a crosstab chart that compares the prior quarter with the current quarter of Revenue, Cost of Sales, Net Income and Gross Margin. The first chart shows accounts as rows and the second shows accounts as columns.
Click the Appearance Settings tab in the right panel to change the appearance for the selected chart. The appearance settings that are available will differ based on the chart type.

Settings to define conditional formatting rules. Rule expressions can only reference data series in the chart.
Add a Rule
Click to create a new conditional formatting rule. The Conditional Formatting dialog displays. Provide the following to create the rule:
- Description: A brief description of the rule.
- Expression: A rule for that evaluates to true or false. If true, the condition is met and the data is conditional formatted in the color specified. Click for syntax rules and list of operators.
- Color: Choose a color to format data that meets the condition.
- Series: Choose the data series to apply the rule to.
Reorder, Edit, or Delete a Rule
You can reorder, edit or delete rules in chart. To edit or delete, hover your mouse over and choose Edit or Delete. To reorder rules, drag the rule to the new location using the handler.
Click the Data Settings tab in the right panel to configure settings for account data. The Data settings that are available will differ based on the chart type.
The data slices visualized on a single crosstab chart must be less than 5,000 cells. A data slice is the intersection of the accounts and dimensions in a crosstab chart. If you exceed this limit, the following message displays:
This Crosstab has exceeded the maximum number of allowable cells. This can occur when combining dimensions which have a large number of members.
Expand the Columns section to manage accounts, dimensions, or time positioned as columns in the chart. See Add a Column or add a Row for more information.
Expand the Accounts menu to view, change, delete or add accounts to the chart. To configure the data displayed for each account, expand the listed account.
By default accounts are added to a crosstab chart as columns. if you want accounts to display as rows, drag the Accounts group from the Columns section to the Rows section. Accounts can be either a column or a row. You cannot delete Account groups.
Each account associated with a chart has its own settings. Click the arrow to expand the settings for the specific account.
If you have a series of accounts in your chart, you can reorder them. Click the Handler icon to drag the account to the new location. Click X to remove the account from the chart.
The name of the account as it will display on the chart.

Narrows the focus of the analysis by filtering the account data by dimensions or dimension members. Click the arrow next to the filter value to change or select a filter.
You can search or browse for a dimension. Type a keyword and click to search. Use the Dimension tab or Search tab to browse results. A numbered set of links appears at the bottom of the search results if more than one page of results is returned. Click the link to go to the search results page.
Choose each dimension or dimension member to include in the filter. You can choose more than one dimension and dimension members for the filter. Click Back to return to the Account setting.
The following shows a multi-select filter that filters by Level: Company A and Customer: Customer 1, Customer 2, and Customer 4.
The selection panel displays the selected dimension members at the top and highlights these selections in the list. To clear the filter for:
1 A dimension and all its members from the list of selected filters, click X next to the dimension.
2 A dimension member, click the highlighted dimension member from the list.
Sets the unit format to display on chart axes.
- Follow Account: Uses the display units set from the account.
- #,000,000 (#,##0.#): Displays as millions with one decimal.
- # (#,##0): Displays as thousands with no decimals.
- #,000 (#,##0.#): Displays as thousands with one decimal.
Add an Account
Click to add another account from the selection panel. You can also drag and drop accounts from the Accounts tab on the left panel.
Expand the Rows section to view, change, delete or add rows to the chart. You can add many dimensions or one Time dimension as a row. See Add a Colunn or Add a Row next for more information.
Add a Column or Add a Row
You can add dimensions or time as a column or a row.
From the Column section or Row section, click the Add icon and choose Add Dimension or Add Time from the drop-down. If a specific dimension or Time is used once as a column or row, it cannot be reused in the same chart and will be unavailable for selection.
To reorder, drag the dimension or Time from the Handler icon and drop in the new position within the column or row. The chart reflects this change.
Time as a Column or Row
Time is a special dimension that defaults to the time selections specified on the Time Settings tab. To change the time settings, go to the Time Setting tab:

Dimensions as a Column or Row
When you choose Add Dimension, a selection panel displays. Choose the dimension or dimension member to add as a column or as a row.
If the dimension member has no break down data, a message is displayed on the chart upon selection:
No break down is available for the following dimension members: [member names]
Remove dimension members or unpin the selection to default to the parent dimension member or dimension. Click next to the dimension to unpin. The following is an example of an unpinned dimension:
Click the Time Settings tab in the right pane to configure data settings for the selected chart.
Sets the time scale for the data set.
Choose how to evaluate based on a range of time or single period.
- Range: Choose the start and end of the range for pinned charts, or set the start and end offset for unpinned charts.
- Single Period: Specify the Data Range (Total Period or To Date). Then choose the time period for pinned charts, or set the offset for unpinned charts.
For Single Period time span, indicates the time over which to calculate the value.
- Total Period: Includes all the dates in a period.
- To Date: Includes all dates up to a specific date.
Pin and Unpin
Pin (blue) to set a fixed time period. The period of time for pinned charts is based on the selected time stratum. For example if you have selected month as the time stratum, you can choose periods based on month-year. For quarter, you can choose periods based on quarter. For year, you can choose periods based on the year.
For Single Period spans, set a specific date, such as May 2017. For Range spans, select the start and end dates, such as May 2017 to June 2017.
Unpin (grey) to set relative time to the reference period. You choose the reference period from the perspective toolbar. Relative time is based on the selected stratum. Choose:
- Current: Matches the current reference date.
- Backwards: Adjusts backward by the number you enter.
- Forwards: Adjusts forward by the number you enter.
For Single Period spans, set the relativity for the chart. For Range spans, set the relativity for the start and end of the range.
