Managing Elimination Rules

Elimination rules govern the elimination process. Use the Manage Elimination Rules page to create, edit and delete elimination rules.

Prerequisite: You must complete the steps for setting up eliminations before creating elimination rules.

Permission Required: Admin

Create an Elimination Rule

  1. Navigate to Modeling > Model Management > Elimination Rules. The Manage Elimination Rules page appears.

  2. Click New Rule. The Create Elimination Rule page appears.

  3. Fill out the fields in the Definition and Scope tabs.
    You can click between the tabs without losing data. You can save a partially-completed elimination rule, but it will not take effect until all required fields are completed.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Click Done.

Edit, Delete, Change Order of Elimination Rules

The Manage Elimination Rules page displays the Elimination Rules list, which lists all elimination rules, along with their description, which version(s) they affect, and their start and end periods.

Navigation: Modeling > Model Management > Elimination Rules. The Manage Elimination Rules page appears.

Use the icons in the Action column to:

  • Edit a rule: Click the name link or click Edit Icon.

  • Delete a rule: Click Delete Icon.

  • Adjust a rule’s position in the list: Click Up or Down Arrow Icons to move the rule up or down.

Elimination Rule Details

Definition Tab

Field Description
Name

Required. The name of the rule.

Use a clear and descriptive a name. Rule names show up in the rules list on the Manage Elimination Rules page and in the Cell Explorer.

Examples: 

  • Intercompany Sales Offsets: A good descriptive name.
  • Sales Offsets: A poor descriptive name. This might be clear in the context of the Manage Elimination Rules page, but less helpful in the context of the cell explorer.
Description Optional. Useful if multiple administrators are handling elimination rules. The description appears on the Manage Elimi­nation Rules page.
Intercompany Debit Accounts Select the debit accounts to use for this rule. Only debit accounts set as Intercompany will appear in this list.
Intercompany Credit Accounts Select the credit accounts to use for this rule. Only credit accounts set as Intercompany will appear in this list.
Intercompany Difference Account Select the intercompany difference account to use for this rule. Only system accounts set as Intercompany will appear in this list.

Scope Tab

Field Description
Applies to Version

Search or browse to select the versions on which the rule applies. 

Actuals:  If selected and actuals sub-versions exist, the Actuals Version section appears:

  • Source actuals: Defaults to the root Actuals version and cannot be changed.
  • Target actuals: Choose the sub-version in which to store the eliminations This can be any leaf-level sub-version
Rule Period Choose specific months, or choose start and end of version. Revisit this setting periodically and update as needed.
Optional Matching Dimensions

Optional. Specify dimensions to use when matching intercompany balances. If selected, balances with dimensions are eliminated based on the value in the dimension. 

For example, suppose you select Product dimension for the eliminations rule, which has dimension values: Laptop, Desktop, Server. 

The elimination process will eliminate against balances where Product is value Laptop, is value Desktop, and is value Server.

With matching dimensions, you can run eliminations reports based to see the eliminating entries sliced by dimension
