SAML SSO Azure AD

Provides instructions for configuring Single Sign-on when using Microsoft Azure Cloud as your SAML Identity Provider.

You can obtain your Single Sign-on URL from within Adaptive by providing place holder values for the required fields and your SSO certificate in Administration > SAML SSO Settings. After saving the page with placeholder values, reload it to see the SSO URL at the bottom. 

Set up Azure

  1. Log in to your Azure AD administrator interface.
  2. Click Azure Active Directory > App Registrations > Add.

  3. In the Create section:
    1. Provide your application name.
    2. Select the Application Type as Web app / API.
    3. Provide the Sign-on URL as the SSO endpoint received from Adaptive Insights, e.g.:
      https://login.adaptiveplanning.com:443/samlsso/T0tUQUM5
    4. Click Create to add the app to the list of available applications
  4. Click the app to open the Settings section.
  5. Click Properties.
  6. Important: Edit the APP ID URI.
    Set it to the same value as the Sign-on URL, e.g.:
    https://login.adaptiveplanning.com:443/samlsso/T0tUQUM5
  7. Add users to the application to complete the Azure application setup

Set up SAML SSO in Adaptive Insights

  1. Obtain the application’s metadata from Azure as follows:
    1. In the App Registrations window in Azure, click Endpoints.

    2. Copy the link for the FEDERATION METADATA DOCUMENT
    3. Paste the link into the browser. An XML file will open in the browser window.
  2. Login as the company administrator in Adaptive Insights.
  3. Go to Administration then SAML SSO Settings.
  4. Edit the SAML Settings as follows:
    1. Set the ‘Identity provider name’ to Azure.
    2. From the application’s metadata XML copy the entityID value in the EntityDescriptor at the top of the page, which has the following form:
      https://sts.windows.net/<String-value>/ . Paste this value in the  ‘Identity provider Entity ID’ field.
    3. From the metadata of the XML page, copy the X509Certificate value:

    4. Paste the copied X509Certificate value in a text file to create a certificate file:

    5. Upload this certificate file in the ‘Identity provider certificate’ field.
    6. Set up the ‘SAML User Id’ and ‘SAML User id location’ in consultation with the customer team.
    7. Enable SAML and save the SAML Settings.
    8. Below is a snapshot of SAML settings as an example:

Test the SSO

Login to the Adaptive Insights company without a password and you will be redirected to the SSO login page:

Enter your credentials and complete the SSO login.

You should be logged in to Adaptive Insights.

Logging in to Excel Interface for Planning and Adaptive Office Connect using SAML SSO

Once SAML SSO has been successfully configured and tested, Excel Interface for Planning and Adaptive Office Connect users only need to provide their usernames in the login form. Leave the password field blank.
